WORKING CLASS * POVERTY CLASS ACADEMICS

Many times in the history of the e-mail discussion list, a topic
arises which sparks delightful conversation regarding our
social class markers.
We believe social class is not only defined by standards such
as income, education, status and so forth. We, too, struggle
with defining working and poverty class membership.
We do know there are markers.
We have discussed:
Government surplus foods.... distributed before food
stamps to low income citizens. A bus would pull up and
recipients would get a box of commodities the country had too
much of.
Teeth ...can conditions of a person's teeth and their stories
of dental treatment be considered a marker? We thought so.
Food ... One day, there will be a working-class, poverty-class
Academics cookbook.
